When we cut through all the layers of red-tape and political bullshit set before our eyes, we can realize that mankind is responsible for only three things: war, science and art.
Now, those three things can be individually analyzed, dissected, formed and reformed and while each subject can be taken apart and studied as a subculture of genre and personal intent, three things still remain constant: war, science and art.
War has been a part of video game culture almost since the very start (you can even look at the original Atari as a war between players). Science, on the other hand, is on the losing side of video game ingenuity. Art, especially through music, seems to be one of the hottest topics around the world. Especially since Harmonix, MTV and EA got together.
Music has influenced generations, and, the recent outbreaks in technology have made our generation very susceptible to music. At home, sometimes at work, and especially in our cars, music has triumphed. But it hasn't triumphed because of a fad, shinny colors and the wild hairstyles associated with it. The reason why music is so powerful is because it is very personal. All our feelings, actually, our entire lives can be described in a 4 minute song. Loss, pain, hatred, despair, justice, injustice, love, mercy, understanding and especially hope are just some of the words that are used to describe not only the subjects found in the music itself, but our feelings and emotions as well. This is where Harmonix, MTV Games and EA come in. They put together some of the best rock music ever created; not only is Rock Band 2 a great soundtrack, but it is also a great video game (for many, many reasons). And here's why...  |
