While the Battlefield series has entertained us for many years, no other Battlefield was as entertaining and as influential on the series as the original Battlefield 1942. Even for its day it was a masterpiece.
I wasted many nights of my life killing and being killed by my friends in some of the most intense historical locations of World War II. And, unlike just about any other World War II game, in Battlefield 1942 you not only focused on the European theatre of the war, but on the Pacific theatre as well. And let's face it, while the Luftwaffe and the RAF had the Battle of Britain, the Americans and the Japanese had Coral Sea, Midway, Guadalcanal; the list goes on.
Now, years later, EA is at it again finally releasing a much anticipated sequel to 1942, Battlefield 1943. This Battlefield only focuses on the Pacific theatre, but, instead of being a 60 dollar game, it is only $15. This brings me to a funny story. One of my friends who used to play 1942 with me all the time kept telling me to go download 1943. At the time I didn't realize that the game was only $15 and that it was download only so I embarrassed myself when I asked for the game at the store. But it works out a lot better this way; I would much rather pay fifteen bucks on a game that I have to download vs. 60 on one that comes with a nifty box and some fancy art work on that box. EA really got my attention. Now let's see if EA is capable of delivering us a great WWII multiplayer shooter.
