When Virtua Tennis 2009 first came out I was very excited about the game; I was so excited that I actually went and got it on release day.

Virtua Tennis 3 has been one of my favorite PSP games, and I could not wait to see what the 2009 Xbox 360 version of the game brought to the table. After playing the game, I was very disappointed in Virtua Tennis 2009; not because it was a bad game per say, but because it wasn't anything new from the previous release.

For the most part, Virtua Tennis 2009 sounded and looked good, but it was the gameplay that I had problems with; it was just too simplistic and arcadeish. While tennis is a 'back and forth' game, in Virtua Tennis 2009 that was what most of the game was about. Serving worked well, but when it came to strategic tennis and actually playing a complex tennis game, Virtua Tennis 2009 didn't deliver. That's why I'm taking a look at another tennis game, 2K Sports' Top Spin 3. With all the major tennis tournaments being played around the globe, if tennis nostalgia kicks in and you just have your heart set on owning a tennis game, you might as well get the best one out there. I've heard many people bitch about the complexity of the controls in Top Spin 3; apparently it is a very complicated game. That was enough to motivate me; I just finished reviewing Rock Band Unplugged for the PSP and if my hand-eye coordination can handle that, I bet I can handle a complex tennis game. Let the battle for the best tennis game begin.
