The only UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) game that I've played was about ten years ago. I don't remember the game's name or who made it as a matter of fact; all I remember about it is that is was not a very good game.
The reason why I was disappointed was not because the graphics were bad or that the game did not have enough fighters or moves; what was very disappointing about that game was the actual game balance. Unless you were fighting someone who was brand new to the game, most fights would end in less then 30 seconds because one of the fighters would end up snapping a bone belonging to the other fighter. My friend Kevin must have broken my fighter's arm 20 times in just a few hours of sparring. That to me was unbalanced and boring; all you had to do is pull off one move and the fight would be over.
As I said, it has been years since I've played a UFC game; honestly, I don't know how many UFC titles I have actually missed since the old game from years back. All I know is that the UFC is just as popular in my book as it was years ago, and considering that not only am I a fan of the sport, but since I'm also a reviewer, I have a moral obligation to take a look at UFC 2009 Undisputed. What gives me great hope about this game is the fact that THQ bares its label. THQ has done an impressive job with the WWE games and I'm glad to see them continue to maintain their position in the fighting genre. Another factor that is very motivating about this game was the fact that I purchased the last available copy at Game Stop; the employee actually had to take out the game from the display case. Not only that, but if I would have shown up five minutes later it would have been a different person ending up with the last copy. Is THQ's UFC 2009 Undisputed such a popular game because of the greatness of the game or is it's popularity based on the actual sport alone. Let's take a closer look and find out for ourselves.
