When I think of a mystery I usually have a book or maybe even a movie in mind; until recently I didn't really associate mysteries with video games.

As it turns out, Sherlock Holmes is not only popular in books, TV shows and board games, but his popularity has made the world's number one detective a star in the video world as well. Living out of Sherlock's shadow, Dr. Watson is more popular then ever as well. As for me, as much as I am curious, I'm also rather skeptical about how a mystery, especially one of the Sherlock Holmes caliber can possibly be fully exploited on a point and click PC game. But that's why I'm a reviewer. I have to find the answer to the tough questions.

So, without much hesitation, I picked up the latest copy of the Sherlock Holmes series, Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper. I'm not going to lie, I'm not the biggest fan of Mr. Holmes, actually, I find him rather boring, but Jack the Ripper on the other hand, now he's a colorful character. Even Johnny Depp had trouble with good-old Jack in the movie From Hell. Now, as much as I'm trying not to be bias towards this game or the overall theme, I can't help but wonder if Jack the Ripper will turn out to be Bilbo Baggins (aka. Ian Holm). I'm sorry Ian, but even in Lord of War, when Nicolas Cage shot you in the head, my exact thoughts were: 'Dang, Nicolas Cage just shot Bilbo in the face...!' Anyhow, as much as I don't think that Ian Holm is Jack the Ripper this time, we better take a closer look and make sure.
