Gigabyte chose to forgo the game bundle with the GeForce 9600GT 1GB card. A game would add to the costs of a video card as game manufacturers usually charge a fee to include a game with a video card. The target market for the 9600GT is for the around $100 USD market and costs of bundled software would add to the cost of the card unless you want to include a filler game that has been out for a while.

The hardware bundle of the Gigabyte 9600GT card consists of two DVI-I to D-sub adapters, a TV-Out Dongle and a Power cable. The DVI-I to D-sub adapters gives the video card maximum flexibility on monitor options, as two analog CRT, two digital LCD monitors or a combination of both of them is possible. The driver CD contains the NVIDIA Forceware 174.74 drivers which are not the latest available, but are pretty recent. I always suggest using the latest NVIDIA drivers off their website with your card as new features such as PhysX support might be enabled with the correct drivers. Stability and game issues also are often fixed with newer drivers. The latest NVIDIA reference drivers for the 9600GT are the 175.19 drivers which I used in this review. Gigabyte has a Game HUD program which can power down the card to lower operating levels when 2D mode is enabled and power the card to full speed when it 3D mode is enabled. You can also disable the global setting so it runs at full speed all of the time, but saving the environment and saving energy is important to me and 2D doesn’t take a lot of horsepower to run Email or Word. Gigabyte also includes the Yahoo Toolbar, which is a search engine assistant, but I would suggest not installing it.
