The interface device in which all of us have become used to and has almost become an extension of our hand is the mouse,, where the hell it got the name mouse is beyond me, it was introduced to the world in 1968 by Doug Engelbart and since then no one has contested it, so we will go with the “Mouse” nomenclature. The umm’ mouse is really an important and mostly looked over aspect of your PC experience, yeah yeah, we all hear about the new CPUs, the latest VGA cards and the latest motherboards in abundance, but the underdog mouse, it seems only garners moderate attention at best.
I as well never really thought much about my mouse until a few years back when the first optical mouse (The MouseMan) hit the shelves and the laser light loving kid in me said, hey that’s really a cool idea. After I found out that not only did the optical mouse seem to be smoother, with improved DPI, it was actually better than any mouse previously released. Being an avid gamer means that the performance of my mouse is an important aspect of gameplay, especially in FPS games where timing and accuracy is everything. I soon realized a fast and high-reading DPI mouse equates to better gameplay, and in that light I never have used a ball type mouse again for any application.

I could write an entire chapter on Logitech, but let us just say these people have added an extra dimension to the PC industry via their input and sound devices. Devices I must say which are so popular among the masses to make them an almost household name. I am opinionated by way of sitting in front of a PC at least ten hours everyday, so I know what I like to use, and what I don’t after ten years in the industry. My favorite products from Logitech have been their speakers and their optical mouse products. Their keyboards in my humble opinion are just so-so as far as the ergonomics go, as the keys on their keyboards are too stiff and do not have the soft bounce back feel as my favorite old school IBM jobbers did. On the other hand every mouse I have owned for the past few years has been one made by the folks at Logitech. The first time I saw the MX1000 laser I was instantly interested as it had even better specs that the previous optical mouse, but when they fist came out they were selling at almost $100.00 U.S and that was a bit out of my mouse buying budget. Prices have finally come down, but the quality is still there and now the MX1000 sells for around $56.00, a much more affordable price point.
