Due to the lack of available DVD-R or DVD+R media capable of 16X write speeds, I wasn’t able to demonstrate a performance improvement over their previous 8X DVD +/- RW drive the DRW-0804P. However, I am impressed with this drive as it is slightly faster than the 8X drive in testing. Dual-layer DVD writable drives are important today. The Asus 1608P is capable of writing these discs at 6X speed.

I’m very impressed with the 1608P, as it gives the features I want for a DVD drive and has the speed you would need as well. ASUS makes very high quality motherboards and video cards and the 1608P is an example of the care and quality that they put into each computer component they manufacture. With a price online at Newegg of $81, this drive is worth the cost to the end user and offers excellent value for its target market.
