Gaming on the D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router is soooooo sweet. I'm talking about multiplayer, of course; the only time a router and the internet connection would help at single play is if a patch needs downloading.

As for downloading, the routers works at incredible speeds and, as we all know, some websites work better then other. Downloading the latest video drivers from Nvidia for example, I was pulling 1.24 Megs a second. On the other hand, Stream servers run a bit slow. There I was pulling an average of only half a Meg a second. Now, when I went to test my Internet speed at SPEEDTEST.NET I found out my connection's true potential; technically, I can download at 10.03 Megs per second and I can upload at 2.11 mps.

As for the games themselves, I decided to test out the most sensitive games when it comes to your Internet connection: shooters. It is almost impossible to perform well in a shooter if your Internet speed is not up to par. Counterstrike, Half-Life 2 and even Left 4 Dead performed wonderfully. My ping, averagely speaking, has fluctuated from around 30 to 55; on full servers, sometimes I got my ping in the low 90s. I've seen LAN connections do worse from time to time so I've been really happy with the games and the router so far. Shooting and sniping works really well. Unfortunately, due to my rustiness in the shooter genre, my skills are nothing to brag about. There is one exception though: Call of Juarez Bound in Blood. I had the hardest time staying connected to that game. I even opened the right ports and created my own server but that didn't work either. I had to mess with the router setting over and over until I was able to create a functioning server. Eventually it worked. It wasn't the router's fault. Ubisoft released an unfinished product, a product that they're still promising to patch. However, once I figured out how to make the server work, the game worked flawlessly; I even had people saying that my server was the best quality server that they've played on. And, since Call of Juarez is mostly a pistol duel deathmatch kind of game, I was actually able to dominate. Now If I can just do well again in C-Strike...he he.
