WOW!!!! From the second my D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router was out of the box and hooked up to my computer, in less then a minute of messing with the provided software, I was up and connected to the Internet.
I was actually in shock. All I had to do was click next a few times and the software automatically configured the router to work properly with my Internet connection. Now stop right there! I want to make one thing very clear first. Yes, I was up and running in less then a minute but that was only with the very basic of the router's features enabled. Setting up the router to my full satisfaction took a little longer to achieve.
And here's where it gets a little tricky. Setting up the wireless feature, once again, it took less then a minute. Where things got a bit more complicated was when I had to set up the firewall and the security settings. I'm not a networking guru so it took me a bit longer to correctly set up all the security features. If you're not familiar with networking at all, once again, there are two routes that you can take. One option is to call customer service and have them walk you through all the steps. The other way to do it is to pull up the help page (which is very detailed) and learn to do it on your own. Or, if you don't care about your network's safety, you don't even have to go to this extent; without messing with all the security features, we're back at the couple of minutes of configuration time before your computer can be up and running on the Internet. Now, if you're a gamer like me, dealing with ports is the next step; many online games require certain ports to be opened before a game connection can occur.
