After the end of a month of using the Logitech LX710 Cordless Laser keyboard/Mouse combo, I think I have a very good grasp as to how well the product does or does not function, and my feeling are a mixed bag. On one hand the keyboard and the mouse both are designed to be ergonomic, and for the most part they were successful with that aspect of the 710s design. However, my results for using this combination to control my Media Center PC were nothing short of frustrating and disappointed at best case scenario.
The problems did not really fall on the keyboard as it usually worked okay, but the mouse had the connectivity of the un-connected and many times forced me to get up and use the front panel control of my Thermaltake DH-104, that luckily offers that feature, otherwise control was almost obsolete. The thing is when I took the LX710 in my office and used it on my desktop it worked without problems, so the problem must be in the connection in the wireless receiver, which obviously has limited connectivity as far as range goes as my coffee table is about six feet from my PC.
I guess if I go strictly by my objectives of why I bought this LX710; it fails miserably, but in all fairness using it as human interface device on my desktop it worked pretty well for the most part. I was just intending the LX710 Laser for a completely different use and in that regard, it was a bummer, although if someone intends to use this on their desktop I cannot give adequate reason as to why not consider this combination if you want a wireless keyboard and mouse that costs less than $100.00 and comes with a solid warranty. Overall I cannot say I give the LX710 any awards or am writing home about it, but in all candidness I have seen and used much worse products.
