ASUS decided to use a slightly modified version of the standard NVIDIA reference 7950GT design. The 7950GT does not require the big cooling fan and heat sink combination of the 7900GTX, as it runs cool. ASUS decided to use the standard reference fan with a “Warrior” on the heat sink.

The EN7950GT has 8 64MB memory chips arrayed in a semi-circular fashion around the graphics chip. ASUS uses the Infineon HYB18H1232AF-14 memory chips. According to Infineon’s website this memory is rated for 700MHz. ASUS decided to clock the memory at 700MHz, the rated speed, giving the 7950GT a memory bandwidth of 44.8GB theoretical.

The 7950GT is a native PCI Express cards. Most mid-range cards ($199 and above) need external power to run, as the PCI Express bus only provides 75W of power to a card. The EN7950GT has two Dual-Link DVI-I ports, meaning the card can drive two Dell 30” monitors up to their maximum resolution of 2560x1600. The card also has a HDTV-Out and is HDCP compliant. |
