NVIDIA decided to change their classic control panel with the new driver release. The new GUI is interesting to say the least. NVIDIA has decided to change their interface to one that resembles a web page. There are three categories for the new Control Panel, 3D Settings, Display and Video and Television. Let’s take a look at each of the new categories.

3D Settings is where you change the various game settings. There are two subcategories in this category, Appearance and Performance. Appearance allows you to adjust image settings with preview and manage 3D settings. The Adjust Image Settings tab gives you three choices: Let the application decide, go to the Advanced features menu, and use my preferences emphasizing Performance, Balanced or Quality. The advanced features menu is where you have the most control over the driver. Here you can change the various settings including Anti-Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, Transparency AA and more. There is a preview image of an NVIDIA logo. When a setting is changed, the logo has the effect applied to it. The Performance gears the settings to highest performance. The balanced setting sets the anti-aliasing to 2x and the Anisotropic Filtering to 4x. The Quality setting has the AA at 4x and the AF at 8x.

The Display category gives you options: Run display optimization wizard, move screen position, change resolution attributes, adjust desktop color settings, rotate display, and manage custom timings. The display optimization wizard takes you through a series of menus to automatically set your displays. You can move the screen position independently of the monitor controls with the Move screen wizard. You can change the monitor resolution and refresh rate in either the display properties or the change resolution attributes. Changing settings like Brightness, Digital Vibrance, Contrast, Image Sharpening and Gamma is done in the adjust color settings. |
