The first game I fired up with the GIGABYTE 6600GT was Far Cry. Far Cry was
released early last year by Ubisoft. Ubisoft has released game patches for 64-bit
processing, Shader Model 3.0 hardware and HDR. The first mention of the ATI
X1K series I found was on one of the Far Cry patches. Playing the game on the
6600GT from GIGABYTE was pretty decent, with playable game play up to 1280x1024
with no AA and 8x AF. If you want AA and AF, I would strongly suggest a more
expensive card.
F.E.A.R was released by Sierra Games just a few weeks ago. A FPS (First Person
Shooter), F.E.A.R. visually is one of the best looking games out there today.
On the 6600GT from GIGABYTE the game was barely playable up to 1024x768 resolution
without FSAA and anisotropic filtering. To get the best experience with this
game and the 6600GT I would suggest running 800x600. If you want to truly appreciate
F.E.A.R, I would suggest a 7800GTX card or a X1800XL card as they can play the
game with maximum settings.
The other game I tried with the 6600GT was Quake4. Quake4 is the sequel to
Quake2 from way back in the old days when 3dfx was king of the graphics card
world. This OpenGL game has a lot of improvements over last year's Doom 3 in
terms of fun. The 6600GT was able to comfortably play this game at 1024x768
without AA or AF. As a mid-range card, the 6600GT can't compete with the 7800GTX
in terms of playability or performance, but it gets the job done.
