AOpen
is a Taiwanese manufacturer of motherboards and video cards and other computer
equipment. They are part of the Acer conglomerate of companies in Taiwan. Acer
has a market capitalization of over $10Billion, a large sum in today’s
age of computer companies. Acer has a history of over 20 years of manufacturing
experience.
NVIDIA makes video card chipsets. Since its inception in 1993, NVIDIA has become
one of the largest video card chip manufacturers in the world, along with ATI.
April of 2004 saw the introduction of their NV4x chipset, the latest in a string
of architectures dating back to the NV1 in 1995.
AOpen makes video cards based upon NVIDIA chipsets, including the 5600 (they
had 22 varieties of cards based upon the 5600 chipset), the 6800 and the 6600GT
I’m reviewing here. There are three varieties of 6600 on their website,
the 6600 128MB, the 6600GT 128MB and the 256MB 6600GT I’m reviewing.
