MSI includes everything needed to run the video card, hardware wise. The DVI-VGA
cable allows for dual CRT monitors to be used. I do wish that manufacturers
would include 2 DVI-I ports so dual DVI-I monitors can be attached. Also included
is a S to S TV-Out External Cable and a S to C TV-Out connecting Cable, allowing
for full use of TV-Out. It’s nice to see an extension, as most video card
manufacturers tend to include a short TV-Out cable.
MSI has a filler bundle listed on their site. In terms of games, Morrowind
is a good long, RPG if you haven’t bought it already. Unfortunately, Morrowind
is rather dated today. Duke Nukem For (almost said the Forever moniker ?) Manhattan
Project and Ghost Recon are nothing more than filler today. MSI had the right
idea with their NBox bundle. 3 modern games C+C Generals, BF1942 and Unreal
II are included in the NBox bundle. Unfortunately, that isn’t the bundle
included in the MSI card.
The other software is mostly filler right now as well. PC-Cillin 2000 was a
great anti-virus software back in 1999. Unfortunately, the year is now 2003.
Microsoft’s DirectX 8.1 is so dated that the card supports DirectX 9.0.
The other software is useful to some degree, but not a big deal. The other software
not MSI developed is ok, but I almost wish MSI didn’t include it at all.
MSI has a Live Update of VGA BIOS and VGA drivers. What this means is that
you can automatically download drivers and updated VGA BIOS like you would a
motherboard BIOS with a Windows BIOS update program. Personally, I prefer updating
everything manually, as I know exactly what drivers I use, but for businesses
and people who don’t like updating drivers it can be a godsend.
