One consequence of using the nForce 790i Ultra SLI motherboard in our testing is that CrossfireX can’t be tested. Therefore to prepare for testing two HD 4870 X2 cards or two ATI cards in general, I chose the Intel DX48BT2 motherboard for this review. This is the reference board for Intel’s X48 Express chipset and it offers good performance and good features to base a video card platform on.
System
- ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 card running ATI Catalyst 8.52 drivers
- Intel DX48BT2 Bearlake motherboard
- 2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR3-2000 EPP memory running at 1333MHz due to no XMP support
- 2 74GB WD Raptor SATA HDDs in RAID 0 mode
- Rosewill 950W PSU
- Windows Vista 32-bit Business Edition with SP1 installed
