In the upper circles of performance casing, there’s one name you’re never going to see. Hell, even stepping down into the mid range cases you can’t find them. The company I’m talking about? ICute. With numerous generations of casing (this being generation 5, model 8), all fitting into the big value for low money scheme, these are the types of setups you’ll be finding in your local PC shops, usually for under fifty bucks a piece. Now, this isn’t to say that they’re bad systems; after all, I’ve watched generic casings take bold strides in recent years, moving up from single (if any!) exhaust fans tied to razor thin (seriously, my hands often didn’t make it out of the case unscathed) constructions, and pitiful amounts of horridly rattly drive bays. To the point, though – the case on our test bench today – the 0508 – brings it’s inspiration (noted as model 08) from the late Aerocool Engine 1T cases, which have evolved up to the Aerocool engine 3T cases by now. The second inspiration, noted by generation 05, is the inclusion of forward 140mm fans, and a side mounted, low CFM 250mm fan, to help keep componentry cool. Perhaps the only common vibe is that these casings is the fact that they share the same interior. While this bodes for the best, we simply have to wonder what corners ICute was forced to cut, in order to drive in a case at less than half the price point of a similar competitor. With that in mind, it’s time to look at the specifications, then the case itself.
