If you haven't already heard, I'm not going to ruin the intro for you. I will say it caught me totally off guard, and helped to draw me in all the quicker.
On with the story, though.
You play a character called Altair, who is an assassin, obviously. Altair is a man in his mid twenties, living in 1191 during religious crusades, although
religion is not the focus of this game.
At the start of the game, we see Altair and two other assassins on a mission together. The mission starts off with Altair killing an innocent man, and he is
quickly scolded by the other assassins. Altair is the higher ranking man, however, and the mission continues.
Altair has the chance to kill the leader of his enemies, but also runs a chance of setting the two factions at war with one another. He attempts the kill
and fails, and is thrown out of the room, leaving the other two assassins alone.
When he arrives back at the guild, he is exposed for what he's done when one of the other two assassins survive. This man tells the leader what Altair has
done, and the enemies arrive. After a battle, and some trickery, then we get going for real.
Altair is stripped of his rank for what he has done, breaking the assassin's creed in every possible way. In order to earn his rank back, Altair must
complete a series of missions given to him. As he goes through these missions, Altair starts to question his missions. To find out more, you'll have to get
your hands on your own copy of Assassin's Creed.
