Call of Duty, since the first game, has been great at tossing you into intense situations that are non stop action. Even though we've
stepped out of the battlefields of the Second World War and into the modern age, things haven't changed a bit.
After going through your first training mission you are tossed right into the fire. NPCs in your squad are scripted, and you usually
aren't the commanding officer. As you play though, you won't care that you aren't in command, as the action is that intense.
As you go into missions, you won't be able to just back yourself into a corner and fight a battle. Enemies will attack with great
numbers and usually from most directions. You'll get used to this pretty quick, and come to love it as the game goes on.
You'll have to keep moving, because there isn't a health bar. This game uses a standard Bleed Out type mechanic. If you take too much
damage, you'll have to find cover for a few seconds and wait it out while you get health back. Once you do this you can return to
combat.
Almost every mission you will play as someone different. Not to say you'll play as a new person each mission, because that just isn't
true. But you'll most certainly get a chance to be quite a few different people, and see the war though their eyes.
Not only will you get to use many different characters, but tons of weapons will be at your disposal. You'll be able to hold two
weapons at a time, which will leave you wanting a bit more. You have to think of realism here, it's not very realistic for someone to
be carrying 3-5 machine guns and a sniper rifle in combat.
You'll get a chance to use tons of other machine guns than just what you are issued. Enemies you kill will drop their weapons on the
ground, making things far more open as far as your load out goes. You'll even get the chance to pick up sniper rifles and rocket
launchers, making the killing all the more fun.
The missions aren't all intense shooting on the ground, although the action doesn't feel slow when it changes. First time you change,
you're on the gunner position of an AC-10, flying around supporting the SAS (same group you play as) on the ground.
This mission seems like it'd be slow, but it actually turns out to be quite a bit of fun. You'll also run into a mission where you're
playing as one of the SAS, but sneaking around as a sniper. You can't just go in guns blazing, so this will take a little bit of
patience and work.
Some people may think that hopping around from character to character might take away from the main storyline. This could not be
further from the truth. In fact changing around who you play gives you a nice opportunity to see the war from different perspectives.
This story has no trouble drawing you in and keeping you interested until the last bullet is fired.
