Prototype is a unique game experience and a game I will go back and replay over again. Each level of difficulty provides a new challenge and more awards for completing the game at these levels. For the basic users who want a good hack and slash style game play this is the game for you. Prototype is also for the more experienced gamer, adding more unique morphing abilities and the new control system to the gaming community.

While some will say this is a lot like Resident Evil, I think it varies in some key attributes. Game play is faster and more efficient. The free roaming aspect is only really available in the newest Resident Evil game. You can go anywhere you can see in this game, except for under water but who want s to walk through the New York sewers or rivers anyway. The pace of the game is also more chaotic and better spaced and you do have control over the outcome of the game depending on the situations or resolutions you decide to use.

About the only problem I had was the two times the game froze during a cut scene. While this can be frustrating, luckily you can save the game at any time as long as you are thinking about it. Unfortunately, I did not save and well. 45 minutes of game play was lost. Although for the most part, if you complete tasks or events in a timely manner, the game will auto save so maybe I shouldn't have done 3 events and forgot to save before continuing the story.

Overall, Activision and Radical Entertainment have a great if not almost perfect game in Prototype. Combining the storyline with the abilities the characters have has really separated this game as the lead dog for this reviewers game of the year. It will be hard to see a game come along soon that will knock Prototype from the top spot for the game of the year. Great jobs and compliments go to everyone involved with Prototype from Activision and Radical Entertainment. Keep up the great work and I look forward to more games from this Developer and Publisher.
