The World Tour is where you give life to your created tennis star. One of the first choices that you must make is deciding whether your created athlete will be a man or a woman. The player's sex determines if your created player will play on the Man's or the Women's Tour.

Your player's look is not necessarily something that you have to meticulously labor at before your start the Tour. For 5000 virtual dollars you can give your player a complete makeover. While you can change your look, your dominant hand, skin color and even your (DOB) date of birth, the one thing that you can not alter during a makeover is your sex. So, that's the only real decision that you must have to make at career start: to play on the Man's Tour or the Women's.

While the life of an athlete may seem glamorous, it is also filled with hard work and can be very stressful on the body. In Virtua Tennis 2009 you must pay very close attention to your player's stamina level. Running low on stamina can cause injuries and depending on the severity of the injury, your athlete can be knocked out of the competition for quite some time. Paying attention to the calendar is also a must in this tennis game. In Virtua Tennis 2009 there is a fine balance between competing in tournaments, training and resting. Rankings change hands only during tournaments but tournaments do not render any experience. Your tennis player gets experience by training at the Tennis Academy, by playing Practice Matches against guest opponents and by successfully completing one of the many Training Games available. There are three areas where each tennis player must work on: Ground Strokes, Footwork and Technique and Serve & Volley. Considering that there is so much to do in Virtua Tennis 09, each crated athlete can have a unique set of events, thus a unique life and story. How your player develops is left entirely up to you. Are you going to be a Fast Runner or a Hard Hitter? The choices are almost limitless; this is your player's story. Are you going to be a singles or a doubles superstar? You can even be both.
