The closest thing to an actual storyline in Baja - Edge of Control is the Career Mode. In career mode you start out as broke nobody. Well, actually, you have just enough money to purchase one of the VW Dune Buggies.

When choosing your Volkswagen there are quite a few styles and paint schemes to pick from but as far as I can tell they are all about the same speed and handling wise. Your career starts out with the slow Bugs and ends up with the Super Trucks (assuming that you are a good enough racer and earn enough experience points and cash to make it that far). I did not even finish the Volkswagen part of the career because from a gameplay and controls perspective this game is almost unplayable but that is something that I will discuss under the appropriate section of the review (the Gameplay and Controls section). But this is your storyline. You start out as a nobody and you raise up to fame and fortune assuming that you are a great driver or extremely lucky.
