Grand Theft Auto IV is a game that looks great and sounds absolutely amazing and the first expansion pack, The Lost and Damned maintains the same awesome legacy.
While the Lost and Damned does have some new graphics, for the most part the expansion pack relies on what GTA IV originally introduced. Liberty City looks the same in the expansion as it did in the original release of GTA IV. There are some new vehicles, mostly motorcycles and the Lost and Damned does introduce a wide array of new characters, all with their own unique look and sound.
All the new characters in this expansion pack look great, especially the new motorcycle gang, The Lost. The Lost is a bunch of tough guys and the graphics show that without much difficulty. The toll of the life can be seen on the character's faces. Scars, tattoos and even the attire that the Lost possess helps us as the player understand and sympathize with the new GTA heroes. Even the Lost's hangout is awesomely designed. If I was part of their crew I could definitely call that place a home. But once again, I want to emphasize that most of the game's graphics are the same graphics used in the original GTA.
As for the sound, even though much of it can also be found in the original release of the game, the new storyline and the new voice acting is simply put... brilliant. Part of the sound that has not changed can be found in the environmental sounds. Engines sound the same, tires skidding sound the same, gunshots, screams and explosions, they also sound the same. Most of the game's music is also the same as in the original release of GTA IV although Rockstar claims that it did introduce new songs in The Lost and Damned expansion pack. GTA IV has so many songs that in all honesty I could not tell you what was an old song and what is a new addition, but what I can tell you is that with the multitude of radio stations and songs on each station it will be almost impossible for you to not find something that you enjoy. As for the voice acting included within the new storyline, it is just absolutely amazing. Personally, I strongly feel that this is some if not the best voice acting that I've seen in a video game. Each member of The Lost does an outstanding job delivering their lines and between the storyline and the acting, Rockstar was able to really help the players connect to and understand the new characters. Even the side characters with just a few lines do an excellent job of delivering those few lines. Considering that this expansion pack is roughly around twenty bucks, I'm confident enough to say that just the voice acting alone is worth that fee. |
