Even though this section is called sound and graphics, this time I'm actually going to start with the graphics part.
I'm changing the rules because I have something on my mind that I just have to say. This game's graphics could have been perfect with the exception of one thing. I might get in trouble for making this association, but it seems like some of the players in this 2KSports game are covered with sex jelly.
While wrestlers in the WWF are probably required to lube themselves up before most fights (shiny muscles look even more roided up) I honestly don't think that the NBA stands for that. I'm assuming that the 2KSports team found some humor out of making some of the basketball players look all lubricated and slick or it might be just a bad coincidence that the sweat effects look this terrible; anyhow...I'm totally confused and I'm going to let you be the judge.
Besides that, the graphics are perfect. This is the absolutely best NBA game up to date. The players faces look distinguishable and although I haven't run around the NBA with a measuring tape, I'm assuming that most (if not all players) are up to scale. The courts look spectacular, the animations look great and even the fans in the crowds should get a moment of acknowledgement for their crisp look. Even though navigation through all the menus is really hard to learn (initially), once you get used to it, NBA 2K9 has it going on. Part of me is almost glad that my PSP broke that that I had to trade in my NBA 09 - The Inside game.
The game's sound is pretty much standard of what to expect from today's sporting titles.
There are several commentators that do a great job informing you of what's going on, and the music is upbeat thus adding in to the adrenaline building of the game. The fans in the crowd create the expected noises found in a stadium, but overall, there is nothing innovating about the technology used in this NBA game. |
