Part good, part bad, you chose; I'll just list the facts.
Considering the limited buttons found on the PSP, NCAA Football 09 does a great job on creating an authentic football game.
The running game is a bit stiff, especially running down the middle. The HB draw only works about once out of every twenty-five times, but then again, not
every offensive linesman is Larry Allen. Where as in the Madden games the offense is somewhat balanced off, in college sports, some teams just dominate.
Deal with it.
The passing game works a lot better. If your receiver is open, odds are that you'll do well for yourself (if you can handle the ball tracers). The ball
tracer is probably the most annoying thing in the entire game. Not only is it poorly rendered, but it also masks the actual location of the ball. Sure,
fine, put up with it during offense, but good luck during defense. While the initial batting down of the ball is a breeze, intercepting after the knockdown
is almost an impossible thing. Catching the tracer is not quit the same as catching the ball.
And there is the "stupid reminder" as I like to call it. Even though EA calls it a "helpful hint" I call it annoyance at its best. If you're on offence,
the game reminds you to evade the defensive player. If you're on defense, the game reminds you that you have to tackle the guy with the ball. Come on, if
you don't know that much about football, you don't need to play this game. Actually you don't need to play a football game period. You need to find
someone who knows the sport and ask him or her some questions. Besides that, this game gets my thumbs up (even though they were broken earlier in the
review). But then again, I've been spoiled; I've played football on my computer on high definition and on a projector TV. The PSP does not compare.
