Regardless of whether you are new to the series or a loyal returning fan, you will find the story beautiful.

The writers of Crisis Core did an excellent job of explaining the mysteries of Final Fantasy VII while at the same time creating a stand-alone story that has merit on its own. Don't get me wrong, the story in Crisis Core will make you dig out an old copy of FF VII in no time.

While many interesting characters appear in Final Fantasy Crisis Core, the story is seen from Zack's perspective. While veterans of Final Fantasy VII are somewhat familiar with Zack, his character will certainly intrigue the veterans as well as the series newcomers. Honestly, it really is the story as well as the way that it is presented that is the strongest aspect of this game.

This is a story about duty and honor; joy and revenge. It is a story of love and of loss. The protagonist grows and matures with the story in such a way that creates a depth to each character on a level unseen before in a Final Fantasy release. Zack is not the only character that matures throughout the story. Sepiroth, just like in the original Final Fantasy VII, still lurks in the shadows doing for the most part whatever he wants whenever he wants it. Genesis is there as well, this time in person and not just legend. New characters are introduced, but it is most of the original characters that have the deepest influence on the story. If I had to describe how I felt about Crisis Core's story in just one word, my choice would be masterpiece. Since the opening scene, the story has kept me on the edge, so I can't really go into any details without spoiling something. As a matter of fact, don't even get the strategy guide until you run through the game once.
