I've already talked bout band creation and character editing under the 'Storyline' section of the review, so I will not waste your time by repeating myself.

What I want to talk about in this section is about the basic gameplay controls and how the music actually responds to them. The songs are grouped into several difficulty categories ranging from 'Warmup' to 'Impossible'; to be exact, there are 7 categories of difficulty when it comes to the song selection.

On top of the difficulty of the song, there are 4 other difficulty categories to chose for each song: Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert. The 4 difficulties for each song determines the amount of notes that you are responsible for playing. For example, under the Easy difficulty setting, you are responsible for just 2 notes. 99% of the time the two scrolling notes are yellow and green, but once in a while a song might have a red or a blue note. On Medium difficulty the game introduces all four notes (red, yellow, green and blue) but they are still in limited numbers. My fingers are just not quick enough to respond to the Hard and Expert settings, but maybe yours are. The game is still a lot of fun played on either Easy or Medium difficulty.

What works great in this game is the way the buttons react to the actual songs. There are 4 instruments that you have to play in this game: vocals, drums, bass and acoustic guitars. Don't worry, you don't have to play them all at once, but you do have to jump between them using the Left and Right PSP triggers. Completing a phrase successfully will keep the instrument playing automatically for a while thus giving you a chance to switch to another instrument. If you are careful and dexterous with your button pushing you will be able to keep all the instruments playing thus you will hear the full song. Switch between difficulty levels until you find one that is right for you. For me, unless I play on easy or medium, I miss too many notes and eventually my instruments break and I fail the song. The songs are very responsive to the button pressings; push the button at the right moment and play the note right and the song flows smoothly. On the other hand, miss a note and the song glitches. It works really well on all four instruments and the more familiar you are with the song the more you will notice the difference in the sound between playing well or playing poorly. In addition the main game made, 'Tour Mode', there are additional games modes at your disposal. Quickplay lets jump right into a song, Training takes you on a step by step tutorial at how to succeed at Rock Band Unplugged, and under Extra, you can play the Band Survival Mode where there are no phrases and no auto playing of any instrument (this mode is just tooooo fast for me), or the Warmup mode where you can practice on just one instrument. This game works very well, but if you are expecting to earn 5 stars on the songs that you play, don't expect to pull it off unless you're playing perfect. But 4 stars is not a bad achievement either.
