The first thing that I want to compliment B-Boy on is over the fact that they are not sexist despite of the impression that you might get from the name.
In B-Boy you can create your main character as either a B-boy or a B-girl; the choice is yours. Your sex does not influence the game but it does influence your look. Although you can design your character's appearance to some degree, it is not as complex as some other games have created (there is a more detailed section about the look under the graphics section of the review).
The game itself combines a strategy of skill, luck and button-mashing (not necessarily in that order). Let's face it, unless you're high on meth and haven't slept in three days you're not going to play this game from a single challenge perspective; you're going to enjoy the career mode of the game. Since this is the first-of-its-kind, we're all new to this game so career mode is not only a challenge in itself, but it is the best tutorial as well. Talking about tutorials, the game does have one but the manual make much more sense than the actual in game tutorial.
When I made the comment about skill, luck and button mashing ability... I meant it; this game utilizes all three strategies. Early in the game you have to face easier competitors thus points are given out more generously. Pressing buttons becomes more relaxing and points and the "strategy" are right in place. As things pick up dancing becomes more demanding. More and more combos are necessary for a win and pressure can take its toll. This is where button mashing and luck play an important role. If you are lucky enough to button-mash your way to victory then you don't have to restart; this is not just a play on words but it is also an accurate description. Maybe it is my lack of rhythm or maybe is my complete lack of interest towards break-dancing, but as a gamer I just did not find this game too entertaining. Maybe I've been brainwashed by the media into only liking violent games, but as much as I try to find something that will get me hooked on B-Boy..., I just can't. I will give PSP music another try though; I just got in the mail DJ Max Fever. I'm not sure what it is about, but I think I get "two-turn-tables and a microphone."
