The world of RPGs (role playing games) has drastically changed over the last decade or so.

The traditional turn-based RPG games such as Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior have slowly been replaced by much faster moving RPGs. The turn-based system has slowly been replaced by a more active player involved system and in some rare occasions, such as Fallout 3 or even Oblivion, the RPG style of gameplay has been completely changed into a shooter style system.

Personally, I think that technology created a need for more complex RPGs and the traditional RPGer has slowly been replaced by the modern RPGer. Some years back, Squaresoft and Enix (the creators of the Final Fantasy series and Dragon Warrior series) have joined together into SquareEnix and a new brand of RPGs started to come out. In the case of Star Ocean - Second Evolution the game itself is both new and old. The original Star Ocean was released somewhere around 10 years ago and due to its popular demand SquareEnix remade it. While the storyline and most of the characters are supposed to be the same, SquareEnix has added voice acting for all the major characters in the game. The graphics have also been sharpened, the control and gameplay tweaked just enough to make this release the best ever. Some people go as far as to say that Star Ocean is rivaled only by Final Fantasy VII and although I have not played the original Star Ocean, my favorite RPG does happen to be Final Fantasy VII therefore I can't wait to start playing Star Ocean - Second Evolution and see for myself what the game is all about.
