While the storyline in Rockstar's Midnight Club - L.A. Remix is rather weak, at the same time, it is the traditional story found in just about all the underground racing games.
You start out as a total nobody but you have a sponsor per say. The game does not go into specific details of why the top racer will talk to you (a nobody in the racing scene), but if I had to take a guess, my guess would be that he owes a favor to your baby's momma's cousin's sister.
Either or, you're given a chance to make a name for yourself in the racing community but how you do it is left entirely up to you. Your initial funding can provide one of the three available cars at game startup and once you select your vehicle racing is left up to you (for the most part). Winning races earns you a reputation and as reputations go, the higher your reputation the more pull you have with the racing community (anywhere from numerous car upgrades to new vehicles altogether. And ... if you smoke your competition in L.A. you might just have what it takes to race in Tokyo.
