There are two ways to play Shaun White Snowboarding. One way to play the game is by just mashing buttons and praying that you get to pull off the required points for slope completion. The other way to play the game is by paying attention to the trick combos, remembering them and then pulling off some really sweet tricks as you slide down the mountain.

I'm sure that the PSP version of the game has been dubbed down compared to the Xbox360 or the PS3 versions, but as far as I can tell the controls respond really well on the PSP. The game's physics work really well. For example, unless you use the Ice Board that ignores patches of ice, you will have a very hard time turning on the ice patches. The game has a wide variety of boards to unlock which will help you tackle any mountain. There are also 5 levels in each of the 4 categories (carve, tricks, speed and rail grind) that with the right amount of exp. you can raise. With each gained level you will notice a slight improvement to that particular skill.

There are 5 mountains for you to snowboard in this game. As you might have imagined, as you unlock new mountains they get noticeably more difficult to complete. Each mountain has 4 slops and each slope has its own unique goals. On the first mountain, on each slope you are required to get an X amount of points in one of the 4 scored areas. The scored areas are speed, tricks, rail grind and carve. Each unlocked mountain comes with new challenges, 4 new slopes and an added scoring requirement. For example, as mentioned above, on the first mountain only one score requirement is necessary for completion - lets say speed. Any carving, rail grinding or tricks that you pull off are awarded as bonus experience points. Once you unlock the 2nd mountain two scores are required for each slope; lets say that now you need to do speed and trick. Carving and rail grinding will be awarded as bonus exp. in this case. As you get down to the last unlocked mountain all 4 scoring criteria are required for slope completion and believe me, that is way more difficult.
