Talking about gameplay and controls, Need for Speed Undercover, simply put, is terrible.

I don't know what the programmers were thinking when they designed this game, but for some reason that makes absolutely no sense to me they gave the car handling an arch to it.

Let me explain. It is easier to take mild turns in the game than it is to drive in a strait line. The very slightest of touches on the analog stick will make your car start veering in that particular direction. While that may not seem like such a big deal at first consider that most of this game revolves zigzagging through traffic at very high speeds usually with the cops right behind you. Not being able to go strait easily will cause you to play bumper-car most of the time. If you plan on playing this game get used to crashing lots and lots of times.

I don't know if the game is excessively difficult because of the extremely poor car handling or because they just wanted to challenge us to a difficult racing game but on top of the poor car handling, the rewards system is also completely messed up. While most games offer some kind of price for 2nd and 3rd place, in Need for Speed Undercover you better finish 1st if you want anything. While you may gain 150 bucks to put towards your next purchase (if you end up in 2nd place), it really is completely worthless considering that some of the cars cost over 100,000 dollars. So this is where the game starts being very redundant. You need a large sum of reputation points to unlock new cars and an even larger sum of money to purchase them. If you're stuck in bed with a broken leg for 6 weeks then you might just have the time to unlock all the rides in this game. As for me, as soon as I'm done with this review I'm going to go trade this game in while it still has some sort of value. If you're looking for a good PSP racing game check out Midnight Club - L.A. Remix; it will offer way more stuff than Need for Speed Undercover ever will.
