Take single player, add a network, another Madden owner, and you got multiplayer.
But there’s more! There sure are some game features in this year’s Madden; some. The only real ones however are the Franchise mode and the Play Now mode.
Play Now mode allows for instant battles involving two NFL (past or present) teams. That’s right! Who says that you can’t take on the modern Chiefs as the original KC team – the 62 Dallas Texans (for those of you who don’t know, the Dallas Texans are the modern day KC Chiefs.
My favorite mode is the franchise mode. While you can still do a fantasy draft, on the PSP version of Madden NFL 09 one giant drawback is the lack of possibility of creating yourself or your buddies on NFL teams. You can still play multiple seasons, you can still prospect and draft players, assign depth-charts, and you can still deal with player contracts and you can still see your favorite star go down with an injury.
Another game feature is the Superstar Challenge. In Superstar Challenge the player (you) have to perform a certain task with a certain team. One event I keep failing is winning an overtime game with a field goal. For some reason I keep on scoring TDs. Practice mode is also available. So is Mini-Camp Competition and Mini-Camp. In the Competition you select the event(s) and number of players and go for the highest score. In Mini-Camp mode you tackle the events and try to get a medal. The medal in the drill unlocks the Game Situation option. But as I said, for most of us, Franchise mode is the only feature that we have eyes for.
