I remember being a kid, going to Target with my grandparents, and seeing a new game on the shelves. This game was known as Metal Gear, and we were in the mid/late 80's.

I became hooked on the series as soon as I got it home and started playing my new game. This was different than most games on the NES console at the time, this game rewarded stealth and silence, a big change from games like Zelda or Mario.

About 10 years later, the series was reinvented for the Playstation system. This time it came in the form of Metal Gear Solid. Metal Gear Solid took everything that made the original game great, put it into 3D, and changed the way we look at stealth games.

The second entry into the Metal Gear Solid series followed a different main character, taking Solid Snake and putting him into a support role, guiding Jack (Raiden) through his first mission. Personally, Raiden annoyed me; I wanted another game with Snake at the front.

MGS3 just didn't seem to deliver as part of the series. Yeah, it had the typical Metal Gear style, but something about it wasn't quite right. I had to struggle to finish MGS2, and with 3 I felt the series had lost me.

Now that the series has put Solid Snake back at the reins, I've decided to give what used to be one of my favorite game series a second chance. To this day, I will still occasionally pop in MGS1, or even the original Metal Gear, these games are timeless classics.

Konami promises to deliver an epic finale to the Solid Snake story, and this is what we're here to see. A lot was promised with MGS3 that just didn't deliver. Here's to hoping the team over there at Konami has learned from their mistakes, and are able to return Solid Snake to his former glory one last time.
