For years, a company known as Namco has been making games. Not only that, they are responsible for some of the most famous games of all time. Probably one that everybody remembers is Pac Man. This guy has been everywhere, even in his own cartoon.

Namco is also responsible for my all time favorite game, Galaga. Galaga was a simple concept, similar to Space Invaders. All you had to do was shoot at the space aliens and rack up a high score. From simple concepts, Namco could make great games.

Although simpler titles like Pac Man and Galaga can’t carry a company forever. After some time, Namco decided to branch out to different genres. Over the years they have released many timeless classics. Dig Dug, Xevious, Pole Position, the list goes on and on for how many classic games Namco has created.

Not only that, Namco broke ground when they released Splatterhouse. Spatterhouse was a decent game, nothing majorly groundbreaking within the game itself, except for the level of blood and gore shown. Spatterhouse was the first game to be given a parental advisory warning, before Mortal Kombat was even an idea.

Then Namco took the step into fighting games, releasing Tekken and Soul Edge. Tekken 2 would keep me in arcades for entire weekends, shoving quarters into that machine over and over, trying to learn combos for my favorite characters. It ultimately led to me saving some of those quarters and getting a home version of the game in the form of a Playstation.

Across the arcade was a game by the name of Soul Edge, and later Soul Calibur. This took a somewhat familiar fighting style, but added weapons to the mix. This became widely popular, and also saw its share of home console releases.

This brings us to now. Here we are with a copy of Soul Calibur 4 for the Playstation 3. The PS3 version was chosen to review over the Xbox360 because Sony’s controller is superior for fighting games. I’ve also noticed a difference in the control scheme between the two consoles, at least on the older games of the series, and the Playstation is what I am used to. So, without any further delay, here are our thoughts on Soul Calibur 4, the most recent of the series.
