It seems that lately gaming companies have been focusing more and more on sound and graphics and less and less on the game and the gameplay. Luckily for us, this is not the case with Turok.

When it comes to controls, Turok does an excellent job of being efficient and making it easy on the players to enjoy the game, and not freak out on memorizing an entire book of button combinations. For the most part, if you've played any shooters prior to purchasing Turok, you'll find it easy to adjust to this game. If this is your first shooter, then the game's graphics and sound may distract you at first, but you should get accustomed to the controls and the gameplay in no time at all.

Another one of the great strengths of this game lies in the weaponry at your disposal. For example, let's take the mini-gun. Don't let the name confuse you, it is actually the biggest weapon in the game. Not only can you blast your way past enemies or through some flesh-eating dinosaurs, but you can deploy it in key locations on the map and just wait for anyone to get close; the chain-gun will do the rest. Best I can tell, each weapon has a main and an alternate way of fire, adding even more chaos on a chaotic planet. Unfortunately for use, even this great release has a few weaknesses.

Most of the characters, including you, seem to have a steroid problem. Since the characters are rather bulky, sometimes they get stuck. Don't let that bring you down, it's not too bad; you can un-stick yourself just as quickly as you get stuck, but it does slow down the smooth flow of the game. Another feature of Turok that was a bit disappointing was the overpowered knife. The kill animations are great, but personally I think that it is way too easy to pull off a special move. For example, when I get mad rushed by dinosaurs I usually switch to the knife (unless they're a T-Rex). One other feature that Turok did not have was the ability to lean around corners. Exposing yourself to a dinosaur is not too bad, but that same exposure to a sniper can be very costly.
