The graphics in Timeshift aren't going to be talked about as groundbreaking or amazing, but that doesn't make them bad at all. These are definitely what one
would consider about standard graphics for the time, average quality.
The setting is supposed to be an alternate 1939, which can be easily forgotten as you go through these levels. Everything has become so advanced so early; it
almost seems futuristic in some ways, at least modern.
As I wandered the levels, one thing came to mind over and over again. I kept feeling like I was in a different part of City 17 from Half Life 2. Not just in
appearance, but in the sounds as well.
In Half Life 2, you spend much of your time listening to speakers preaching propaganda for the leadership of the time as you wander the city. The same will
happen some in Bioshock as well. This same trend is repeated here in Timeshift.
As you wander the game, you'll hear what I assume is Krone speaking to the people. The voice is hard to make out, its doubtful you'll be able to understand him
easily. I don't think you're supposed to hear the exact words as much as just feel the presence.
The game does a decent job of producing a society in ruins from a corrupt leader, but this has been done a few times already. The look and feel of this game as a
whole is part Bioshock, part Half Life 2, part F.E.A.R., but without drawing the level of greatness any of these games did.
When you use your time shift abilities, the screen changes slightly, the edges blur up a bit. This is a pretty cool effect, but after a while this as well gets
old and feels a bit gimmicky, given how much you have to use the time abilities just to survive.
When you shoot the enemy, the blood effect is decently cool, though not at all the best I've seen. It has an even cooler look in some of the time modes, watching
it just stop in the air sometimes. Unfortunately the bodies just get little red marks on them rather than appearing to take any real damage from the fight.
