The gameplay here seems to focus around the Nano-suit that you and your team wear. The suit is so important that if you die then your suit and body
are destroyed remotely as to not let the technology into enemy hands.
There
are different modes in the suit, each designed for a different situation. Need to jump high or choke some poor Korean army guy? Well then swap into
strength mode. Need to get away when all is done? Speed mode is for you.
If things overtake you, the suit can even render you invisible for a short amount of time, usually giving you the chance to slip into the trees
unnoticed.
Unfortunately you'll encounter enemies who can see through trees and for miles and miles, and will stop at nothing to kill you. Luckily these are not
the normal. Normal enemies can be tricked fairly well with the suit.
The
encounters in this game feel epic, partially due to the massive world that they take place in. You'll fight entire camps, sometimes even ones with
air support. You'll find yourself taking out tanks to help the mission along as well.
Not only is the world massive, but the world is also destructible. Many of the things you run across can be destroyed, from simple shacks to the
trees themselves. Don't expect to see any Company of Heroes style craters though, but that's fine. This game is enough of a system hog without that
adding to things.
One of my problems is with the enemy AI itself. Even though you can use the suit to hide from them, which works well most of the time, the enemy
seems to have an odd sense about where you are. What I mean is, even if you are hidden away in the bushes and trees they'll still be firing right at
you.
And you better hope a helicopter doesn't pick you up, as they are impossible to lose. Your only hope is to find a rocket launcher and take it out of
the sky. Luckily a couple of well placed rockets can do the job for you. I do recommend shooting down a helicopter if you get the chance, it has a
cool explosion. It even leaves behind a carcass.
Overall the gameplay is very reminiscent of FarCry, with a few notable changes. For starters you're military, not just some poor sap. You've also got
the Nano suit, didn't have that in FarCry.
Finally the game is a hell of a lot more fun to play than FarCry was. The storyline seems to draw you in more, make you care more about what you're
doing. The character is a far more likely candidate for this kind of thing. FarCry was too farfetched, so much so that even a game about alien
technology and the like is more based in reality.
