Without a doubt, the graphics in this game are some of the best you are going to see in DirectX 9. This game just looks great, except for the lighting being done a bit bright for my liking. It just makes the game’s lighting seem unbalanced when you are in darker areas. That and it hurts your eyes if you look towards it, which is required at points in the game.

This complaint aside, the character models are everything you would expect from the current generation of games. Very believable models on just about every other character you encounter. The animations aren’t too bad either, although they are nothing spectacular. Some of the levels are lacking in believability as far as how they look and are set up, but that is pretty standard in video games, so I won’t hold it against them.

The voice acting comes and goes. At times it is very well done and believable, and will start to draw you in. Then you’ll come across a line, or a scene and it will seem as if the voice actors just quit caring about how the game sounded. To me this can kill the depth of a game, and keep it from drawing me in properly. This is exactly what happened when playing Infernal.

The gun battles don’t sound too bad, though I’ve heard far better gunshot noises in games. The way the enemies yell back and forth to one another somewhat reminds me of F.E.A.R.’s enemies, but not done as well. A bit of polishing on all of these things could have made this game look very solid all the way through, instead of just giving the initial impressions of greatness.

This game just seems to put far too much emphasis on the graphics, and I hate when developers do that. Unfortinately that seems to be more and more accepted nowadays, as people just think ‘shiny is better’ and want a game that just looks pretty instead of a fun game that plays well.
