Not bad per se, yet nothing original are the best words I can think of to describe the storyline behind Bohemia Interactive’ s new release: Armed Assault: Combat Operations.
For all the players who enjoy the single-player campaign, I won’t ruin the storyline for you. All I’m going to say is that the storyline is a constant struggle between good and evil: the forces of the west vs. those of the east.
The storyline is played from the American perspective, and the missions start out mostly defensive at first, yet they quickly progress to an all-out offensive. During the campaign, we get to encounter all kind of missions, anywhere from the solo, lone-wolf types to the full group mobilization and assault types.
Your missions throughout the campaign will take you to remote parts of one massive island: Sahrani, the same massive island that you encounter in the editor as well. The other island is so small that it’s hardly worth mentioning. Those missions are also completed using a variety of equipment, armament, and of course don’t forget about the numerous vehicles put at your disposal: ground, air and water.
I also need to add that people familiar with Op Flashpoint will adjust to the difficulty level in no time, but for newcomers the game may seem hard, even impossible. Try to think of this game as war rather than just a shooter: try to stay under cover and as low to the ground as much as you can, and consider your shot before taking it.
