Nowadays, a game that is truly a new or groundbreaking idea is rare. Sometimes one will come along and add a few ideas together in a lame attempt to make a new type of game. Recently, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. – Shadows of Chernobyl has marked itself as one of these true gems.

While most FPS games are still confined to levels and a linear storyline, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has taken a page from The Elder Scrolls series. Games such as Oblivion, Morrowind, and even Daggerfall and Arena back in the 90s, all have been open world games. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. takes this type of game, and modernizes it, and moves away from the true RPG into a sort of RPG/FPS type hybrid.

You won’t be running around on horseback, getting in swordfights, or learning magical spells in this game. You will however find a FPS experience like nothing you have played before. If a new experience in the world of FPS games interests you, then read on further, and step into a new breed of First Person Shooters.
