The open-ended nature of Oblivion makes the game one of the more enjoyable games to come along in a long time. There are literally hundreds of quests that are not germane to the main quest. The game is so open-ended in fact that you could spend days playing the game without even touching the main quest. You spend much of the game building up your character’s skills, and the game will adjust the enemies according to your skill level. You can play the game as a

Combat in the game can be customized to your likes. Are you a Brick type player that likes to wade into melee combat? You can customize your fighter with Heavy or Light Armor, a long sword, an axe or any manner of other weapon in the game. You can also play the game as an offensive mage using spells like Flare or Snowball or another spell, to cause damage on the enemy. You can also play a Thief, sneaking around doing 4X damage against enemies you surprise.

Control of the game can be done via WASD to control the character. If you know WASD, you also know W stands to go forward, A to turn right, S to go backwards, and D to turn left. To cast a spell, you need to press C to cast the readied spell. The Tab key is very important in this game as it sets up your equipped armor, weapons, spells, items etc. The Tab key is also where you learn your quests and World and Local map. The interface is easy to learn and get used to, especially if you read the manual. You can also Hotkey commands.

One quick way to get combat experience is to use the Arena in the Imperial City. The Arena is a mini-game by itself, with you fighting ever-increasingly difficult enemies until you fight and become Grand Champion. The purpose of the Arena is to test you against ever-increasingly experienced opponents so when you reach the high level enemies, you have a chance to beat the bosses that are higher leveled.

The enemies are varied in shape, size and toughness from the lowly rat to the various faction leaders. You can play the game as a rogue if you want killing everyone or anything. Killing indiscriminately may cause the main quest or other faction quests to be broken. There are other creatures like vampires and goblins in the game. The game levels enemies according to your current level. The Arena, for example, has enemies that are several levels above your own once you reach Warrior rank.
