For
some thirty years now, the Star Wars franchise has been a staple and an inspiration
for a generation. After all, how many franchises out there have legions of dedicated
fans, some of which have in turn spawned wee legions of their own? While I might
not have been around for the inception of the series, the effects of it on the
people around me have always been profound. Whether it came from gathering round
the television to watch it when it was on with family, or listening to the interesting
stories of how a half dead Yoda could inspire a younger version of a half nuts
teacher, there’s always a story related to Star Wars anywhere you look.
Now, with a legacy like that, merchandising has always been a premium for the
series, coming from action figures, lunch boxes, posters et-cetera in the early
days to the side scrolling games of yesteryear. A few years back a title came
out that let you take part in many of the major battles that would make or break
the rebellion, that being Star wars Battlefront. Following in its footsteps
would come a bushel of titles, the likes of which taking a look at the events
which occurred before the trilogy that defines a generation. Titles such as
republic commando, which thrust you into the shoes (or is it boots?) of the
clone soldier, and take you across the galaxy from their view. It is on this
key that Battlefront II takes place, but to what end? We’ve all seen
the films and played the other titles, so what is there to separate Battlefront
II from redundancy? The promise of choice, and the glimmer of variety. Stick
around; as this title might just prove itself worthy of the moniker which it
bears.
