In my opinion,
Command And Conquer Generals: Zero Hour is what Generals should have been from
the beginning. The single player campaign of Generals was simply too short with
not enough replayability. 21 missions with skirmish and multiplayer was simply
not enough for a new Command And Conquer game.
Zero Hour adds 15 single player missions to Generals. But more importantly,
it adds the Generals Challenge Mode. Instead of 3 sides, Zero Hour allows you
to play as one of 10 unique generals each with their own weapons, strategies
and units. The replayability of the Generals Challenge mode is immense. To complete
the challenge you need to defeat the other 8 generals in 1 on 1 matches. This
adds immeasurable tim to finishing the game.
As an expansion pack, Zero Hour is well worth the $30 ($24 if you buy it on
special) that it costs. If you have Generals, Zero Hour is a no-brainer purchase.
If you don’t have Generals, Zero Hour doesn’t by itself give you
a reason to spend $80 to buy the game and expansion pack. To me, at least, the
original game needs to hook me in first.
I had a wonderful time with Generals Zero Hour. The Challenge mode was challenging
indeed. Especially challenging was facing the GPS Scrambler Prince Kassad. Against
his faction you need to constantly use Radar on the map. Otherwise you would
never find his base nor would you find his resource gatherers. It’s the
first time in a long time that I had a C+C game make me think “outside
the box” to finish it.
