Generals
gameplay was pretty boring. There was a single player campaign multiplayer and
skirmish modes, but truthfully the game was too short and lacked replayability
from a single player point of view. Of course you could play online and enjoy
live competitive combat against real human opponents, but I always liked Command
And Conquer for the single player campaigns and "movie like feel" of
the intermissions (cut scenes) of every other Command And Conquer game since the
first one.
Zero Hour took the concept of a expansion pack to the extreme. Not only are
there new missions and units, but there's a whole new concept for the single
player, General campaigns. Let me explain, Zero Hour has 10 generals (1 is hidden),
each with their own units, tactics, special abilities and limitations. You can
play as the generals in either multiplayer, single player or skirmish missions.
Rather than rehash the gameplay of the original game, I'll concentrate on the
9 generals here (sorry I'm not going to talk about the secret character, after
all, you have to have at least one good reason to purchase the game.
Each side has 3 generals each with different weapons specialties and limitations.
Every one of the challenge generals has some changes from the standard sides
(U.S., GLA, China). The objective of the challange missions is to find a strategy
to beat another specialty general. This makes you think as to what's the best
strategy against a particular weapon, and is an excellent training for playing
multiplayer online. If you play several of the challenge campaigns you have
a solid foundation on the enemies you will face online, and the strategies required
to beat them.
