The first issue I have with the game is the invisible wall approach to shepherding the player through seemingly impressive wide open levels. There are many times in the game where you are moving along and a short hill blocks your way to the destination. This is a tool used by developers to make sure that you go one way in your gaming but it is a tool that is more apt to annoy the player as he tries to go one way and ends up totally confused as to the direction he is supposed to be going as a seemingly small obstacle blocks the path.

The map system works, sort of. Bringing up the map in a mission lets you see the whole of the battlefield and a marker is placed as to your next destination. Rivers, enemy encampments, hills are all marked on the map. The problem is the map does not show you where the invisible walls are or the best route to take to get to the destination. Often moving through a map will have you scratching your head due to the path looking clear on the map but either an invisible wall or another obstacle blocks your way.

Controls in the game are very basic and easy to use for any veteran of First Person Shooter games like Quake or Unreal. The character is controlled via a keyboard and mouse combo with WASD controls. W moves forward, A moves to the left S moves the character backwards and D moves the character to the right. The mouse is used to turn the character and fire weapons. The left mouse key is used to fire a weapon the wheel is used to change the weapon. This is pretty standard controls for a FPS.

You use various weapons from throughout history during the game. For the most part the weapons match the historical period. Muskets are used during the Civil War; American rifles are used during the WWI missions and more. Sometimes during the game you are given a non-historical weapon from the future that can take care of the enemy like they were cattle. These weapons are used for limited scenarios where you face overwhelming enemy armies and when you face the Opposition during a mission as normal weapons can't kill these enemies. There is a weapon called Chasers that is used to take “Blue Aura” soldiers out of the game. These are important to history according to the game and taking out more than three of them will cause the Opposition to appear and kill you dead.
