The story in Disciple takes place in the fantasy world of Aphelion. Yeiwaz, the creator, entrusted his three children as protectors of his new world.

Yeiwaz first two children were Nyx and Dai and with Nyx's help, Yeiwaz was able to spring from his thoughts three new deities. Yoden is the God of Earth and Body, Ouramazd is the God of Fire and Spirit while Artaius is the God of Air and Intellect.

Nyx, filled with anger and jealousy towards his younger brothers decided to torment them with blindness and despair, but their older sister, Dai, took pity on her younger siblings and showered them with light. Pained and angered by his children's fighting, Yeiwaz banished all his children and himself to the heavens. Yeiwaz held the highest spot and underneath him were his first two children, Nyx and Dai. Below them, came Yoden, Ouramazd and Artaius.

Still angered, Nyx filled the world with terrible monsters and chaos, and responding to this misery, the three younger Gods created the three races of men; each after the image of their own God. Yoden created the Volkerians, the strongest of the races of man. Ouramazd crated the Ashasians, the swiftest of the three. Artaius, the smartest of the three brothers created the Haltians, the smartest race of man. At first the God's creations worked to cleanse the earth of evil, but as time went by, ambitions and great made some of the men desire the knowledge of all three Gods. They thought that by having the knowledge of all three deities, they would become strong enough to overtake the Gods and rule the universe themselves. The Gods were angered and cursed mankind with mortality but also gave them the chance to choose one of them to follow one of the Gods as disciples. But war was inevitable. Still plagued by ambition and greed, the three races constantly fought each other. Here's where you come in. At character creation you get to choose what race you are, what your profession is and what God you will follow and worship. After that, you're thrown in a world of chaos, war, despair and constant battles for your personal gains as well as your survival.
