Game Booster and Gaming
Conclusion

Before I actually talk about how gaming works on your PC with Game Booster activated I want to take a quick second and explain the way that the screenshots work. I turned on the frame counter in Fraps and I manually circled the frame count on the pictures and added a - B (before Game Booster) or an - A (after Game Booster). It was very hard to take identical pictures with or without Game Booster activated and after hours and hours of trying, I finally came up with some good comparisons.

"Game Booster is developed with the intention to help users solve PC games running slow. When activated, Game Booster will temporarily close other programs that are currently running, turn off background processes, shut down unnecessary Windows services, intensify processor performance, and do a quick RAM sweep. In other words, Game Booster will keep all the features of Windows ready for when users need them, but turn them off when they are ready to play." Game Booster does exactly what it claims to do. It clears up RAM and it helps your games run just a bit faster.

My first test was conducted on Bethesda's Fallout 3. Fallout 3 won best RPG of 2008 at the Spike TV Video Game Awards. While it is one the best RPG ever made, it is also one of the most visually enhanced games as well. Even on low detail the game looks good, but on the highest settings it looks spectacular. Once Game Booster was activated I was able to enhance the gameplay by raising the frame count anywhere from 1 to 6 FPS depending of where I was in the game. So, Game Booster passed the Fallout 3 test. Next test was performed on Empire - Total War. Empire - Total War is by far the most resource-demanding video game that I've ever encountered and for good reasons. With beautifully detailed landscapes and thousands of soldiers rendered on the same battlefield, Empire - Total War runs laggy even on my PC. While I can run the game on the highest detail during very small skirmishes, if a real battle is to take place, I have to run the game on a slightly lower detail. Game Booster did not perform any Total War miracles and because every single battle will not be carried out identically twice. I did earn 1 to 2 FPS, but the only way that I was able to tell the improvement was not from the battlefield itself, but from the 3D world map.

The next few tests were conducted on racing games. While you might be able to perform just as well in some games regardless of the frame count (unless you get just a couple FPS, you can play a chess game on a low frame count), but when it comes to racing games, a low frame count will not get you the checker flag. The first racing game that I played was Disney's Pure. It is a highly graphic intense game and it looks absolutely phenomenal. The racing genre also does not make it easy for a before and after picture but in Pure I was able to analyze the frame count at the loading screen. Since the loading screen is 3D and animated, I was able to see a slight improvement in the FPS. The other two racing games that I've tried gave me similar performances with just a very slight frame count increase in each game. Now, where Game Booster performed superbly is in helping the games maintain a steady frame rate. Skidding, crashing or simply driving over dirt can cause so much smoke and debris in racing games that all of the sudden you can end up dropping quite a few frames. If that happens in a strait line it is bad enough, but if it happens in a sharp turn that can be the end of your race. Game Booster noticeably reduced the drop in frames and that in itself can be just as important as gaining a few frames per second. It is just too bad that my old computer crashed and burned. I would love to see what Game Booster can enhance a slower system, but even on my new computer Game Booster managed to impress me.
