While I'm not going to go as far as to call Death Track Resurrection a true racing simulator, I can clearly state that this game's controls and car handling are better than some games that fancy themselves as a true simulator.
This game has a perfect balance between a simulator and an arcade style game. Initially, the cars handle a bit sluggish, but as upgrades are purchased the handling becomes more responsive and driving becomes just a tad easier. Talking about upgrades, each car can be upgraded in several categories. The actual car itself can be upgraded in the engine, chassis and xere. The weapons can be upgraded as well. There are several primary as well as secondary weapons to choose from. The primary and secondary weapons only fire forward but the game did include spikes and landmines, also upgradeable, for rear defense.
Despite having several difficulty settings, Death Track Resurrection is not an easy game at all. Even on the easiest difficulty the other drivers are ruthless and they will try to take you out if given the chance. For your driving enjoyment, the programmers included the traditional 'Classic' mode where destroyed cars do not respawn on the track once they are destroyed and the new 'Modern' mode which allows for destroyed cars to respawn and also has all the bonuses enabled. Bonuses range from ammo replenishing to shields and even a point multiplier. At the completion of each race (assuming that you qualify for the next race) the accumulated points are converted into cash. The earned cash can be spend on upgrades or new vehicles. There are 5 game modes included in the game: Quick Race, Scenario (your basic career mode), Tournament (consists of 3 stages - the American, European and Asian Cups), Challenge (you have to accomplish mini-tasks as you drive along) and Drag Race (races with super modified cars that can only use manual transmission). I would like to add that while driving this game with a keyboard is possible, for ultimate results I would suggest the Logitech Dual Action Gamepad; for some reason the game does not register the triggers of the Microsoft Wireless Xbox360 controller for Windows.
